Dear Mrs Graham

Your letter & your gift were a great surprise & pleasure to me. Did
Mrs Innes tell you of my weakness for cushions?? It was very good
indeed of you to think of me. They make my little study sofa very
comfortable. I'm afraid it will be a long time before I visit Cape
Town. Likely not till the farmers Congress meets, next year. ^Because^ I
want to settle down & work. I have been so utterly alone all my life
that my husbands gentleness & goodness to me seems more surprising
than they would to another woman, who had lived at home, among her
friends; & I ought to do a great deal now.

My husband remembers your husband very well, & says he was once of the
best loved & most popular of all the boys at College, & one of the
pluckiest – which goes without saying!

Good bye; thank you so much.
Olive Schreiner
